about

“and the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud
was more painful than the risk it took to blossom “
Anais Nin

if you are reading this it means i have
finally found the courage to let this album go
and i am probably hiding under my kitchen table
not just because i really love my kitchen table
but because letting go of art is a bit like
cutting off a limb and funnily enough
just after i recorded this
i had my thyroid removed
and i couldn’t sing any of the songs
you’re about to hear for a year
so i began to make art
and i realised i was a visual storyteller too
and this album became an art diary
and started telling its story
in a different way
and there was so much
healing in this process for me
that i took the name “Birdwoman”
from a song i wrote about hope
and i found my voice again
and i thought the day had come
but the day just kept on coming

and i know now
that everything is connected
and that our unique stories
will always find a way
to be told to us
through the circumstances of our lives
and it is up to us
to find them meaningful or not
but meaning is always more fun
and if you open your eyes
to things like synchronicity
you might find yourself in places
you wouldn’t have had the audacity
to even dream of
once upon a time
way back when
you were still asleep

and this is why i’m here
baring my soul on these
ten songs i wrote
between two thousand and three
and two thousand and sixteen
about apathy and empowerment
and curiosity and femininity
and everything in between
and i’m really grateful you’ve arrived
and i hope you put your phone down
for your first listen at least
and that the day comes for you too
and thank you
i’d love to hear from you
talk soon

Kellie xoxo
